Welcome to the Just Curious Show. I started this podcast for three main reasons. First I enjoy learning from conversation. People’s stories, careers, passions, pasts and ideas have fascinated me for a long time. I was that annoying kid who asked too many questions and in a lot of ways I still am.

The second reason for this podcast is learning what careers exist. I grew up in a small time and knew only the basic careers I saw around me. Teacher, nurse, doctor, lawyer, pastor, construction and not a heck of a lot else. It turns out there are a lot more careers out there. I’ve met underwater archeologists, TV cake makers, hog farmers, salmon biologists, puppet artists and for every career you can think of there were tons of different paths to get there. Both the path and destination can incredibly interesting and inspiring.

The third reason is to learn and share more of the nuts and bolts of what that variety of careers entail. College was a great place for me to explore subject matter. But one thing college didn’t give me was a great understanding of the professional world. How do you get a job? How much do you make when you start? How much can you make 10 years in? How many hours do you typically work? What are the perks? What are the sacrifices?
